How
Many Days?
Froggie fell down a 10-foot well. He cannot hop
out. He has to climb out. He climbs three feet a
day, but during the night, while resting, he slips
back two feet. At this rate, how many days will
it take Froggie to climb out of the well?
Froggie makes one foot of progress every twenty-four
hours. So after seven days (and nights), he will
have climbed seven feet. Then on day eight, he will
climb the three feet he manages per day; those three
feet will bring him to the top of the well, from
where, before nightfall, he will jump and drop to
the ground. In all, his journey will take eight
days.
